- Wayland (or Weyland)( Smith)
Name by which
Völund or
Wieland is usually known in the English-speaking world. Perhaps the last of the makers of fairy or magic swords, in which capacity he is still remembered in Britain. Wayland was the son of Wade, who had a magic boat, and the grandson of a sea-witch called Wachilt. This may possibly indicate that the tradition of sword-making had been brought from overseas, possibly from the Mediterranean at some early stage in the classical period.
